Child airlifted to local hospital

PACOIMA -- An 8-year-old was airlifted to a local hospital Saturday after he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle near Branford Park, fire officials said.

Driver injured in vehicle crash

MALIBU -- A driver was airlifted to a hospital Saturday morning after the vehicle he was driving ran off of Pacific Coast Highway Pacific Coast Highway may refer to:

The crash occurred at 3:15 a.m. near Latigo Canyon Road in Malibu, according to Sgt. Ken Crocker of the Los Angeles Sheriff Department's Malibu Station.

The driver was taken by helicopter to a hospital, Crocker said.

Suspect shot, hit by squad car

LANCASTER -- A sheriff's deputy shot and wounded a man Saturday in the Quartz Hill area, a sheriff's deputy said. The man was reported shot at 9:46 a.m. in the 5100 block of West Avenue M-4, said Deputy Oscar Butao.

No deputies were injured and the condition of the suspect was not immediately known, he said.

A witness said deputies were investigating another incident when they were told about a nearby fight. When deputies arrived the witness said they recognized one of the fighters was wanted on a no-bail warrant.

The man allegedly resisted arrest, and when the deputies saw what they believed to be a gun in his waistband, they shot him, the witness said.

The man fled and deputies followed on foot and in a squad car, which struck the suspect, sending him into the windshield, the witness said.
