Stolen camping gear replaced

WEST HILLS -- Members of a West Hills Cub Scout pack will be heading to their annual camping trip this weekend after all, even though their camping gear was stolen earlier this year.

The members of Cub Scout Pack 246 were broken-hearted in January when someone driving a Ford F-150 pickup stole their trailer from the pack's headquarters at Shomrei Torah Synagogue in West Hills. The theft was captured by a security camera, but a suspect was never caught and the supplies were never recovered.

But the pack's fortunes turned Tuesday when the Coleman camping company, working in conjunction with a Costa Mesa Costa Mesa (kŏs`tə mā`sə), city (1990 pop. 96,357), Orange co., S Calif., on the Pacific south of Santa Ana; inc. 1953. The agreement limits what can be made public in connection with the lawsuit, and calls for some papers to be filed under seal.

Najarian chosen Glendale mayor

GLENDALE -- Just call him Mayor Ara Najarian.

The city councilman, elected in 2005, was selected by his peers Monday to serve a yearlong term as mayor. He succeeds Dave Weaver, who was re-elected as councilman in April.

The office of mayor is mostly ceremonial and rotates among the five council members. Najarian will represent the city's elected leadership at local functions and forums, while setting the agenda at meetings.

But Najarian's unanimous election came after a contentious round of voting.

Weaver and Councilman Frank Quintero sided with Najarian, while Najarian backed Yousefian, who also voted for himself.

Yousefian later relented to allow a unanimous vote.
