Man arrested in area shooting

VAN NUYS -- Police said Tuesday that they had arrested a man after he allegedly shot another man in the chest in a nongang-related attack.

The shooting occurred about 9 p.m. Monday in the 14200 block of Tiara Street, said Detective Juan Santa. A Latino man in his late 30s to early 40s was arrested, Santa said.

The man who was shot, described only as a 25-year-old white man, was taken to a local hospital in critical, but stable condition, Santa said.

Blaze damages home in NoHo

NORTH HOLLYWOOD - A home was heavily damaged and a window and some trim in an adjoining home sustained minor damage in a fire in North Hollywood on Tuesday, a Los Angeles Fire Department The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), also known as the Los Angeles City Fire Department to distinguish it from the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The blaze in the 7000 block of Goodland Avenue, between Sherman Way and Vanowen Street, was reported at 5:31 p.m., the department's Brian Humphrey said.

Thirty firefighters were able to contain the blaze in under 18 minutes, Humphrey said. No one was injured.

The cause of the fire and the dollar loss have not been established, Humphrey said.
