A man's body was found Sunday in the wheel well of a British Airways British Airways

Candidate eyed for Janssen job

Orange County's top administrator is among those being considered for the same job in Los Angeles County.

Orange County Executive Tom Mauk was interviewed Thursday by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is the five member governing board of Los Angeles County, California. Members of the board of supervisors are elected by district, the current members as of April 2006 are:

 to replace retiring Chief Administrative Officer A chief administrative officer (CAO) is responsible for administrative management of private, public or governmental corporations. The CAO is one of the highest ranking members of an organization, managing daily operations and usually reporting directly to the chief executive  David Janssen.

``I have talked to them, and I would expect (today) or Tuesday to talk to them again, and I hope to have the opportunity to serve as Los Angeles County (administrator),'' said Mauk, 63. ``The board needs to make the final decision, and I can't say much more than that.''

Earlier this month, Hennepin County Administrator Sandra L. Vargas in Minneapolis was offered the job but declined. Another finalist, Michael Henry, L.A. County's director of personnel, withdrew Jan. 5.

Dead man found in brush by road

SUNLAND -- Police on Sunday investigated the death of a 27-year-old man found face down in the brush off Rim Canyon Road.

The identity of the man -- white, with brown eyes, black hair and long sideburns side·burns

 car hits fleeing vehicle

LANCASTER -- A California Highway Patrol officer injured a finger early Sunday when his patrol car struck a fleeing vehicle on a dirt road in Lancaster, authorities said.

A chase lasting about 15 minutes started on 20th Street East in Palmdale when a driver failed to yield for an unspecified reason about 2:35 a.m., according to CHP Officer David Porter. The pursuit continued through Quartz Hill at speeds up to about 100 mph and ended near 70th Street West and Avenue L-4.

Man stabbed outside party

TUJUNGA -- An 18-year-old man was hospitalized Sunday after being stabbed in the neck outside a rented club where a quinceanera was being held in Tujunga, police said.

The attack outside the Flamingo club at Foothill Boulevard and Commerce Avenue occurred about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, said Los Angeles police Lt. Robert Moreno of the Foothill Station.

Lancaster boy killed in crash

LANCASTER -- A 17-year-old boy killed when the vehicle he was in veered off a road and crashed was identified Sunday by the coroner's office.

George Ly of Lancaster died at the scene, according to the coroner's office.

The crash was reported at 12:16 p.m. Saturday at 110th Street West, just north of Avenue I, said Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos.
