Since July 2004, there have been more than 200 heists from Valley restaurants. The masked gunmen take money from the restaurant's cash register and customers.

The group has been quiet recently, not having committed a robbery since August, when they hit Ca Del Sole in Studio City.

Police have said they are unsure whether the robberies are linked, but the spree prompted city officials and police Chief William Bratton to push for legislation that would lengthen prison sentences for convicted robbers who wear masks during robberies.

Anyone with information about the robberies can call the Los Angeles Police Department "LAPD" and "L.A.P.D." redirect here. For other uses, see LAPD (disambiguation).

Rules expedited for dispensaries

Los Angeles City Council members said Tuesday that they want to fast track efforts to regulate and limit medical marijuana dispensaries in the city.

The number of storefronts that sell marijuana for medical use has jumped from four in November 2005 to an estimated 125 dispensaries.

While the operations have made it easier for legitimate medical marijuana users to get their prescribed dose, neighbors and police have complained that some dispensaries reek of pot smoke, sell to anyone and advertise at schools.

The Council's Planning and Land Use Committee requested an interim control ordinance that would prohibit new medical marijuana dispensaries from opening while the city develops new rules on when, where and how the pot pharmacies could operate.
