Bank robber sought by cops

WOODLAND HILLS -- A man who robbed a bank remained at large Friday, but police released his photo.

The robbery occurred about 3:30 p.m. at World Savings Bank savings bank, financial institution that, until recently, performed only the following functions: receiving savings deposits of individuals, investing them, and providing a modest return to its depositors in the form of interest.  in the 20800 block of Ventura Boulevard Ventura Boulevard is one of the primary east-west thouroughfares in the San Fernando Valley; as it was originally a part of the El Camino Real (the trail between Spanish missions), Ventura Boulevard is the oldest route in the San Fernando Valley. Alarcon lawyer contests ballot

An attorney for Assemblyman Richard Alarcon, D-Van Nuys, is contesting City Council challenger Monica Rodriguez's designation on the March ballot as an educator-housing advocate.

 Young. Woocher has filed a complaint in Superior Court that is scheduled to be heard Monday.

Woocher said his efforts to reach Rodriquez to ask about the designation have been unsuccessful. Neither Rodriguez nor her campaign manager returned telephone calls from the Daily News on Friday.

Rodriguez is head of the California Association of Realtors office in Los Angeles and is thought to be the most serious contender to Alarcon's effort to return to the council.

Margie Carranza and Oscar Mendoza also have qualified for the ballot.

Judge wants plan for Grand View

GLENDALE -- A Superior Court judge ordered attorneys in the Grand View Memorial Park civil case Friday to submit a final plan by the end of the month that could allow burials to resume at the troubled cemetery.

Judge Anthony J. Mohr allowed the defense two weeks to review and reach an agreement on protocols to reopen the 122-year-old cemetery to interments and headstone placements, said Mary Der-Parseghian, an attorney representing those who have been locked out.

Nikki Bacharach commits suicide

BEVERLY HILLS -- Nikki Bacharach, daughter of songwriter Burt Bacharach and actress Angie Dickinson, committed suicide, Bacharach and Dickinson said in a statement Friday.

Nikki Bacharach, 40, suffered from Asperger's disorder, a form of autism autism (ô`tĭzəm), developmental disability resulting from a neurological disorder that affects the normal functioning of the brain. It is characterized by the abnormal development of communication skills, social skills, and reasoning. . She killed herself Thursday night at her condo in Thousand Oaks, said Linda Dozoretz, a spokeswoman for the family.

PANORAMA CITY -- A police officer and a gunman were wounded in a shooting Friday night along the 14300 block of Nordhoff Street in the Panorama City area.

Bus rider steps into street, dies

NORTH HOLLYWOOD -- A woman in her late 60s was killed Friday when she stepped out from behind a stopped bus and was hit by a southbound pickup truck in North Hollywood, police said.

The accident occurred in the 7400 block of Lankershim Boulevard, between Sherman Way and Saticoy Street, at 3:22 p.m., said Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section.

The driver of the pickup truck stopped and no arrests were made, Lopez said.
