Tutor charged with illegal sex

Investigators obtained the warrant for the arrest of Stephen Ridley after they learned he met the alleged victim through his employment as a contract music tutor at a school in Ventura, sheriff's Capt. Ron Nelson Ron Nelson is a composer of both classical and popular music and a retired music academic.

He was born in Joliet, Illinois, on December 14, 1929. After earning bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester in New

Ridley also worked as a tutor in Moorpark, Thousand Oaks and Santa Monica, where he was arrested Thursday, Nelson said.

Cemetery suit could be dropped

GLENDALE -- Attorneys for Grand View Memorial Park are requesting that the civil case against deceased cemetery owner Marsha Lee Howard be dismissed because there is no heir, according to court documents filed this week.

A statement filed in Los Angeles Superior Court by lawyers representing defendants Howard and the cemetery argued that the plaintiffs in the class-action case cannot sue someone who is deceased, nor her insurer. Howard died in November.

Criminal charges against Howard have already been dropped.

Judge freezes O.J. book money

A federal judge in Los Angeles has frozen the money O.J. Simpson received from an advance on a never-published book describing how he would have killed ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson Nicole Brown Simpson (May 19, 1959 – June 12, 1994) was the wife of American football player O.J. Wednesday's order by U.S. District Judge Manuel Real comes in response to a lawsuit filed Dec. 19 by Goldman's family, which alleges Simpson created a trust named after his children to hide the estimated $1 million-plus advance.

Council review sessions planned

The panel charged with reviewing nearly 90 neighborhood councils in Los Angeles will hold three meetings this month to gain insight into how well the system is working, it was announced Thursday.

The Neighborhood Council Review Commission agreed to hold the meetings to find out how the city's system of neighborhood councils can be improved.

The meetings, all scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., will be held:

Homeless camps see 16 arrests

LANCASTER -- Sixteen people were arrested in two homeless encampments where deputies had gone during a grand theft investigation, a deputy at the Lancaster sheriff's station said Thursday.

Deputies went to the 45300 block of Trevor Avenue Wednesday about 11a.m., where they were investigating the theft of surveillance equipment from the Valley Construction Supply Co.

During the investigation, deputies located their primary suspects at a homeless encampment near Trevor Street and Avenue H.

Further leads took deputies to a second and larger encampment, where four deputies arrested numerous wanted individuals living in makeshift homes and seized narcotics narcotics n. 1) techinically, drugs which dull the senses. 2) a popular generic term for drugs which cannot be legally possessed, sold, or transported except for medicinal uses for which a physician or dentist's prescription is required.  and associated paraphernalia.
