Godfrey VCSD's new chief deputy

Ventura County Sheriff's Department The Ventura County Sheriff's Department (VCSD) provides law enforcement for the unincorporated areas of Ventura County, California, USA, as well as several cities within the county. The cities that VCSD serves are Camarillo, Fillmore, Moorpark, Ojai, and Thousand Oaks.  Cmdr. Chris Godfrey is being promoted to the rank of chief deputy upon the retirement of Chief Dante Honorico in mid-February, Sheriff Bob Brooks announced.

Godfrey is a 28-year veteran of the department and is currently the commander in charge of the department's Professional Standards Bureau, overseeing internal affairs and the regional training center.

Grant will help in tallying fish

LAKE CASITAS -- A $25,000 grant from the California Department of Fish and Game will allow the Casitas Municipal Water District to improve an infrared device used to count steelhead trout that are beginning to recolonize Re`col´o`nize

The area had been blocked for the past 50 years to steelhead migration, but was reopened in December 2004 with the help of a massive concrete fish ladder that allows the fish to swim higher up the river west of Ojai.

Forest Service warns of winter

OJAI -- Visitors to the Los Padres National Forest Los Padres National Forest is a forest located in southern and central California, which includes most of the mountainous land along the California coast from Ventura to Monterey, extending inland. Elevations range from sea level to 8,831 feet.  north of Ojai and in the Mount Pinos area should be prepared for extreme weather and dangerous conditions this winter, including deep snow, slippery ice and rockslides, officials said.

The National Forest Service recommends that visitors call Caltrans at (800) 427-7623 for information about driving conditions on Interstate 5 and the Mount Pinos ranger district at (661) 245-3731 for information about current driving conditions there.
