College top-rated institution in U.S.

VALENCIA -- College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  is the fastest-growing community college in the nation among colleges with enrollment of 10,000 students or more.

The Valencia college got word Friday of the news, confirmed in a study by Community College Week.

The study looks at percentage of enrollment change for the period fall 2004 through fall 2005. During that period, College of the Canyons grew by 14.3 percent.

Ohlone College is a community college located in Fremont, California. It was established in 1965. It is the main campus of the Ohlone Community College District; there are two satellite locations in Newark, California.
, Rio Hondo College Rio Hondo College is a community college located in unincorporated Whittier, California. It was founded in 1960 and mainly serves the cities of Whittier, Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs, El Monte, and South El Monte.  and Victor Valley Community.

LOS ANGELES Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  -- A cold storm is expected to hit Southern California today, with rain and snow likely, and possible flooding in areas recently burned by wildfires.

The rain is expected to start tonight, and there is also a slight chance of thunderstorms thunderstorms

The rain ``could bring a threat of flash flooding and mud and debris flows to the burn areas,'' according to the Weather Service.

The cold snap will bring snow levels to as low as 3,000 feet tonight and several inches are expected in the mountains around Los Angeles County. Light snow is possible in the foothills above the Antelope Valley.

``A cold air mass will linger across the area through Wednesday,'' according to the Weather Service. ``Low temperatures Monday night and Tuesday night may be the lowest of the season so far.''
