Masked robbers hit restaurant

NORTH HOLLYWOOD -- A crew of armed, masked bandits robbed a Carl's Jr. restaurant, but police don't believe they are related to the group that has taken over more than 50 San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

Witnesses said the four or five robbers, one armed with a gun, were described as men in their late teens to early 20s. Police said the restaurant had a single security camera, but it wasn't working at the time of the robbery.

Service planned for Orin Borsten

STUDIO CITY -- A private memorial service will be held Sunday for longtime Studio City resident Orin Borsten, a Hollywood publicist, screenwriter, playwright, author and former child actor.

Borsten, who died Saturday of natural causes at age 94, began his career as a child actor in Atlanta and appeared as a young man on Broadway in the ``American Way.'' But it was Borsten's writing talents that helped him when he arrived in Hollywood in 1944.

His first job was publicizing Artie Shaw and the Gramercy 5.

Burbank board to fill vacancy

BURBANK -- The Burbank Unified School District A unified school district is a school district which includes both primary school (kindergarten through middle school or junior high) and high school (grades 9-12). In Illinois, these districts are called unit school districts.  board is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the five-member panel.

The member will serve until April 30 in the seat vacated by Paul Krekorian, who was elected to the state Assembly earlier this month.

PANORAMA CITY -- An Amber Alert was issued for a 5-year-old girl needing asthma medicine after she was abducted from a Panorama City preschool, but she was found Tuesday night in North Hollywood and four suspects were arrested, police said.

Sohelia Valenzuela was taken from the Around The Korner Preschool at 14030 Nordhoff St., near Woodman Avenue, about 4:30 p.m. by her parents, who had lost custody, her aunt and a partner, said Officer Jason Lee of the Los Angeles Police Department "LAPD" and "L.A.P.D." redirect here. The girl and the four suspects, including her mother, Mona Valenzuela, and father Leon Berman, were taken into custody in North Hollywood about 9:40 p.m., Lee said.
