Madison Meadow seeks volunteers for cleanup

A cleanup of Madison Meadow, at West 22nd Avenue and Madison Street, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. Volunteers should bring hand tools and gloves. Refreshments will be available.

The first 20 volunteers will receive free garden gloves.

The Lane County Dahlia Society is holding a demonstration on digging and dividing dahlias today.

Dividing a dahlia tuber tuber, enlarged tip of a rhizome (underground stem) that stores food. Although much modified in structure, the tuber contains all the usual stem parts—bark, wood, pith, nodes, and internodes.  - the "root" of a dahlia plant - is a popular way of multiplying spring's yield of dahlia plants.

The meeting will feature a hands-on demonstration by veteran dahlia growers of how to divide a dahlia clump into several tubers.

All profits will go to the band and orchestra departments to be used for purchase and repair of instruments and equipment, as well as for a trip to Hawaii this year.

DORENA - The Row River Christian Fellowship Church will hold its Fall Fling Bazaar Saturday.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the bazaar will feature baked goods, traditional handmade crafts, white elephant White Elephant

Any investment that nobody wants because it is unprofitable.

Elections officials suggest voters get ballots in early

Voters who want their vote to count in Tuesday's general election should get their ballots in the mail by end of day Friday, elections officials said.

Voters who will be out of state should mail the ballot earlier, officials said.

For voters in town who want this weekend to consider the options, visit www.co.lane.or.us/elections for a list of the official ballot drop boxes that can be used up to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Lane County program helps with heating costs

Senior and disabled households needing financial assistance with heating costs can now get help from the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program operated by Lane County's Human Services Commission.

The LIEAP LIEAP Low Income Energy Assistance Program  program prioritizes households with a senior 60 and over, and households with a permanently disabled member.

To qualify, a household's total gross income must be at or below 60 percent of Oregon's median income level.

For example, for a one-person household, gross monthly income must be $1,592 or less. For a household of four people, gross monthly income must be $3,062 or less.
