Senior day trips set this month

SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  -- The Santa Clarita Valley's Senior Center's Trips & Tours Department is offering the following day trips this month.

A trip to the 35th Octoberfest at Alpine Village will leave at 10 a.m. and return about 5 p.m. Sunday at a cost of $45.

The bus will leave at 8 a.m. Oct. 25 and return about 7 p.m. for a trip to Harrah's Rincon Harrah's Rincon is a casino and hotel located north of San Diego, California near I-15 in Valley Center, California. The hotel has 653 rooms and a 21 story tower. The casino consists of 1600 slot machines and 51 tables including 8 poker room tables.  Casino near San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. San Diego includes the unincorporated communities of La Jolla and Spring Valley. Coronado is across the bay. . The cost is $15.

A trip to ``42nd Street'' at the Fullerton Civic Light Opera will leave at noon and return about 7 p.m. Oct. 28 at a cost of $60 per person.

Volunteer class offered at ranch

NEWHALL -- Volunteers at the William S William, crown prince of Germany

. Hart Museum learn about the life of the silent Western film star, his home, his collection and the 265-acre ranch in Newhall.

Volunteer training classes will be offered from 1 to 4 p.m. starting Tuesday and continuing for four consecutive weeks at the museum at 24151 San Fernando Road San Fernando Road is a major street in the city and county of Los Angeles. It starts off in Castaic as The Old Road, passing through Santa Clarita and the Newhall Pass, where upon its intersection with Sierra Highway near the junction of the Golden State (I-5) and the , Newhall. Classes are mandatory for volunteers.

Old Town Art Festival planned

NEWHALL -- The city of Santa Clarita will present the 2006 Santa Clarita Street Art Festival on Saturday and Sunday in Old Town Newhall. The free outdoor event will feature live music, arts and crafts arts and crafts, term for that general field of applied design in which hand fabrication is dominant. The term was coined in England in the late 19th cent. as a label for the then-current movement directed toward the revivifying of the decorative arts. , food and street art exhibits. There will be a children's area and a family art block. Visitors can watch the artists work, from first outline to final portrait. Conference set for local parents

VALENCIA -- The 9th annual Parent U Conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Hyatt Valencia, 24500 Town Center Drive, Valencia. This year's program will feature two keynote speakers: Brent Hatch, author of ``Raising a G-rated Child in an X-rated World,'' and Tammy Linn linn
