Chatsworth hub for Orange Line

Transit officials voted to add six miles to the Orange Line busway, which has exceeded ridership projections since it opened last fall.

Under the plan unanimously approved Thursday by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority board, the busway running between North Hollywood and Woodland Hills will be extended to Chatsworth.

The expansion will cost $135 million and should be completed in 2012.

The board was under pressure to act quickly in approving the busway or risk losing $98 million in state funds that must be allocated by Jan. 1, 2009, officials said.
