Robber given long sentence

LANCASTER -- An ex-convict convicted in a string of robberies that started two weeks after he got out of federal prison has been sentenced to 25 years to life in a state prison.

Daryl King, 40, was charged with robbing a housing-tract security guard and employees at four businesses in Lancaster -- including a Starbucks and a McDonald's -- which he accessed by bicycling up to the drive-through windows.

``He would ride up on a bike. He would usually show or point a gun and ask for money. He was generally fairly polite,'' prosecutor Guy Shirley said.

King, who had served time in federal prison for drug and firearm convictions, pleaded no contest Tuesday to robbing the security guard on March 19. Prosecutors dismissed the remaining charges.
