2 in custody; after pursuit

SYLMAR -- A man and woman were taken into custody while a male accomplice barricaded himself in a home Thursday night following a five-minute pursuit of a stolen car, police said.

``The third suspect jumped out of the car and got into a home and has barricaded himself inside,'' said Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  police Officer Jason Lee.

Man in assault is free on bail

GLENDALE -- A man accused of trying to run down a motorcycle officer in Glendale was free on bail Thursday, as was his passenger, a police officer said.

Khoren Moughalian, 19, of Glendale, is suspected of driving his pickup truck at a motorcycle officer who tried to stop him in the 100 block of South Maryland Avenue Wednesday, said John Balian of the Glendale Police Department.

Free tutoring may be available

Los Angeles Unified officials urged parents and guardians Thursday to enroll eligible students in free math and reading tutoring courses for the coming school year.

While the scheduled deadline was Thursday, LAUSD LAUSD Los Angeles Unified School District (Los Angeles, CA)  will extend the deadline to Oct. 20.

More than 270,000 students in the district qualify for the assisted instruction from one of 55 state-approved tutoring services under the terms of the No Child Left Behind Act The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (Public Law 107-110), commonly known as NCLB (IPA: /ˈnɪkəlbiː/), is a United States federal law that was passed in the House of Representatives on May 23, 2001 .

Students are urged to sign up if they are in their second year or more in a school that has not met its academic achievement goals for three years in a row, and who take part in a program offering free or reduced-price lunches at their campus.

Applications are available at eligible schools or by calling the LAUSD's Beyond the Bell branch at (213) 241-7900 or Families in Service (866) 747- 2275.

Officials seek man's identity

VAN NUYS -- Los Angeles County coroners are asking the public for help in identifying a man found dead in a blue Ford van that was parked behind a liquor store in Van Nuys, officials said Thursday.

The man was found in his van parked at 14411 Victory Blvd. on July 27, at 8:15 a.m., a coroners official said.

He is described as Latino, 5 feet, 5 inches tall, about 130 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes Brown Eyes (브라운 아이즈) was a Korean musical duo, specializing in ballads. Although both members have powerful voices, they were initially disregarded because of their physical looks. . He is believed to be 25 to 35 years old. He was wearing an XL blue plaid shirt and green shorts.

An autopsy report is pending, but investigators do not believe foul play was involved.

Anyone with information on the man's identification is asked to call Dan Machian at the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner Identifications Unit, at (323) 343-0754.

Suspect's brother jailed after arrest
