Palmdale man dies at reservoir

ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST The Angeles National Forest (ANF) was established by executive order on December 20, 1892 as the San Gabriel Timberland Reserve. It covers over 2,600 km² (650,000 acres) and is located in the San Gabriel Mountains of Los Angeles County, just north of the metropolitan area of Los  -- A young Palmdale man drowned while swimming during a family picnic at the Little Rock Reservoir, authorities said.

Lazaro Pavia, 20, was pronounced dead just after 6 p.m. Friday by paramedics after he was pulled by divers from the water of the reservoir, authorities said.

Pavia was on a picnic with his mother and 7-year-old brother, said Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County sheriff's Lt. Robert Jonsen of the Palmdale station.

He and his brother were swimming when Pavia became distressed, though it was not immediately clear why, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. John Hocking.

The younger brother was able to swim to safety, but Pavia was not, Camarillo said.

Malibu brush fire burns five acres

The blaze started when a man's vehicle broke down and caught fire, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. Tracy Palmer. The man had been in the vehicle with his children, but they all made it out safely, she said.

Man, 49, rescued from house fire

PACOIMA -- Firefighters rescued a 49-year-old man Saturday night from a burning mobile home in the 12400 block of West Filmore Street.

Two firefighters from Rescue Ambulance 898 in Station 98 in Pacoima entered the burning home and carried out the man, who suffered burns to his face, torso and legs and showed signs of severe smoke inhation, while other firefighters fought the blaze, Los Angeles Fire Department The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), also known as the Los Angeles City Fire Department to distinguish it from the Los Angeles County Fire Department. It is the agency that provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the city of Los Angeles.  spokesman Brian Ballton said.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, was taken in critical condition to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Providence Holy Cross Medical Center is a hospital in Mission Hills, California, USA. The hospital has 254 beds, and is part of Providence Health & Services. History .

The fire was reported just before 8:45 p.m., Ballton said. It was knocked down within 10 minutes.

Woman's death may be homicide

LONG BEACH -- The death of a woman whose body was found on a Los Angeles River bicycle path The Los Angeles River bicycle path (or L.A.
