Singers sought for Senior Expo

LANCASTER -- High Desert Medical Group will hold auditions to find singers for the Oct. 5 Senior Expo 2006.

Auditions will take place July 31 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Antelope Valley Senior Center, 777 W. Jackman St., Lancaster; Aug. 1 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Chapman Communications, 41765 12th St. W., Suite A, Palmdale; and Aug. 8 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Palmdale Senior Center, 1002 E. Ave. Q-12.

High Desert Medical Group is only looking for singers, and all auditioning must have CD accompaniment.

Helpers needed to work with kids

LANCASTER -- The Court Appointed Special Advocate program of Los Angeles County is seeking volunteers to help children involved in court cases in Lancaster.

The CASA program assists abused, neglected and abandoned children by providing information to judges making decisions about the children's futures. Volunteers work with children, professionals and other adults as well as writing reports and making recommendations to courts.

Day and evening training classes for the Lancaster court CASA program start July 11. The last day to apply for the program is July 7. For more information, call [phone].

Chase will help child care group

LANCASTER -- Antelope Valley media personality Mitchell Chase is the local Child Care Resource Center's new community and government relations manager.

Chase, former weather and sports reporter for Adelphia's Channel 3, will now work with local government, news media and community organizations to promote early care and education for children. Chase will still host his monthly talk show on Channel 3.

CCRC is a nonprofit organization providing referral services for parents seeking child care, training for child care professionals, financial assistance for those who need help paying for care, as well as other family and child care provider services.

July 5 blood drive planned at Kaiser

LANCASTER -- Kaiser Permanente will hold a blood drive July 5 at its Lancaster Mental Health Offices, 44444 20th St. W.

Young can help with general plan

LANCASTER -- The city of Lancaster and the Lancaster Library will present two workshops for young residents as part of the community outreach program for the Lancaster General Plan 2030.

A workshop for 9- to 12-year-olds titled ``It's Your Neighborhood! Have a Voice in Its Future'' will take place Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. in the Anna M. Davis Meeting Room at the Lancaster Library, 601 W. Lancaster Blvd.

Children will redesign their own neighborhood to make it more child-friendly. Refreshments will be served.

``It's Your City Too! Have a Voice in its Future,'' a workshop for young adults, will meet July 19 from noon to 2 p.m. in the Anna M. Davis Meeting Room in the Lancaster Library. The program will focus on identifying community issues that are important to young adults. There will be door prizes, including two season passes to Six Flags Amusement Parks, and pizza will be served.

`Twelfth Night' gets new setting

LANCASTER -- The Antelope Valley College Theatre Arts Department will present a Las Vegas-themed production of William Shakespeare's ``Twelfth Night'' from July 21 to Aug. 5 at AVC's Black Box Theatre, 3041 W. Ave. K.

Combining the elements of an Elizabethan comedy with a Vegas setting, patrons will be invited inside a nightclub setting featuring a live musical ensemble, ``cuddle booths'' and a working bar serving nonalcoholic beverages.
