`We are Bethel' celebration is today from noon to 6

The fifth annual "We are Bethel Bethel, in the Bible

The free event, presented by Eugene's Recreation department, will include music, carnival-style games, school bands, crafts, a giant inflated slide and performing dogs. Tickets for the carnival are 25 cents.

Oregon State Bar seeks nonlawyer members

PORTLAND - The Oregon State Bar is seeking nonlawyer members for its board of governors and several other committees and boards.

The organization regulates the practice of law in Oregon and helps the public understand and access the legal system.

Opportunities include one board of governors position, as well as appointments to several groups that administer the state's system of lawyer discipline.

Canyonville school's Brown chosen superintendent

Peace Corps organization meets Sunday for potluck

The West Cascade Peace Corps Association will meet at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the home of Howard Schuman at 3368 Chaucer Way.

Following the potluck, Schuman will share his recent experiences while working on a project in Uganda.

Self-defense classes

for women offered

Self-defense classes for women and teens as well as a discussion for men on how to help end domestic violence will be held Sunday at the Tamarack tamarack: see larch.  Wellness Center, 3575 Donald St.

A self-defense class for women 18 and older will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $30.

A mother-daughter self-defense class is scheduled for 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Any adult and girl 12 years and older can attend. The cost is $15 per person.

From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., men and boys 14 and older can watch a film and take part in a discussion on their role in ending domestic violence.
