Accused `mom' pleads not guilty

Two men charged with tax fraud

Two men accused of stealing more than $250,000 in taxpayer money by using the names of county employees in a fraudulent billing scheme were charged Wednesday in a 54-count criminal complaint.

The indictment alleges that the two took the money through fraudulent medical billings using the names of nearly 200 county employees who reportedly were not aware they were being listed as ``patients'' for medical services not performed between last June and this month, prosecutors said.

The charges against Melkonyan and Ghalmukhyan include identity theft, insurance fraud, grand theft of personal property and conspiracy to commit grand theft.

If convicted, each defendant faces a possible maximum sentence of 40 years and four months in state prison.

Fake designer goods seized

Police seized more than $18 million worth of fake designer brand merchandize, including Tiffany, Prada and Loius Vuitton, and shut down a massive counterfeiting operation in downtown Los Angeles' Fashion District, officials said Wednesday.

Chul Kim, 46, and Angie Kim, 50, were arrested on suspicion of willfully willfully adv. referring to doing something intentionally, purposefully and stubbornly. Man charged in boating crash

SAN FERNANDO -- A man suspected of being under the influence of alcohol while at the helm of a boat involved in a fatal Memorial Day crash at Pyramid Lake was charged Wednesday with manslaughter.

John Galvan, 46, was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday on one count of vessel manslaughter with alcohol.

Galvan was piloting the boat and towing a large inner tube carrying the victim, Edward Gomez, authorities said. Galvan swerved to avoid hitting another boat, and the tube carrying Gomez crashed head-on into the hull of the other boat.
