The Antelope Valley
 College's summer term that begins in June.

More than 5,000 people have already enrolled for summer classes. Class space remains in subject areas including art, computer applications, computer graphics, dance, electrical technology, English, health, math, music, office technology, swimming and tennis.

College officials continue to add classes to meet student demand.

Most classes begin the week of June 12, although there are some with earlier or later start dates.

Classes are offered in Lancaster and Palmdale from early morning to evening, and include online courses.

Bly to be lauded, Shaw takes reins

PALMDALE -- Palmdale Woman's Club will install new officers at a meeting at noon June 8 at its clubhouse, 2141 E. Ave. Q.

Retiring president Mary Bly Mary Bly (born 1962 in Minnesota) is a professor of English Literature at Fordham University who also writes best-selling Regency romance novels under the pen name Eloisa James.

She is the daughter of poet Robert Bly and short-story author Carol Bly.

Synagogue sets rummage sale

LANCASTER -- Beth Knesset Bamidbar will host a rummage sale from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at 1611 E. Ave. J.

Books of general interest, collectible Jewish literature Jewish literature: see Hebrew literature.  and other second-hand treasures will be offered. Refreshments will be sold.

The sale is free and open to the general public. Vendors can obtain booth spaces for $25 each by calling 661-942-4415 by Wednesday.

Filipino Week has activities planned

LANCASTER -- Buklod Ng Pagkakaisa has sponsored activities this month in celebration of Filipino Week.

A boutique is planned from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Antelope Valley Senior Center, 777 W. Jackman St., Lancaster. Entertainment will follow from 6 to 9 p.m.

Halls announce birth of their son

PALMDALE -- Robyn and Leslie Hall Leslie Meritt Hall (born November 15, 1981 in Ames, Iowa) is a rap artist and front-woman for the band Leslie and the Ly's and the operator of what is best described as a "gem sweater museum".  of Lancaster announced the birth of a son.Abraham Adam Hall was born May 4 at Antelope Valley Hospital.
