Hunt launched for car vandals

WEST HILLS -- Vandals smashed the windows of at least three cars in the 24100 block of Hamlin Street, authorities said Thursday.

Police believe two people, possibly juveniles, used a baseball bat or a stick to smash the cars' windows about 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, police said. The suspects were seen driving away in a white car.

CRA See Community Reinvestment Act.  OKs Reseda Theater repairs

In its continuing effort to revitalize the Reseda business district, the Community Redevelopment Agency voted 7-0 Thursday to spend $2.9 million on restoring the Reseda Theater.

The expenditure is part of a $4.3 million project to transform the long- neglected theater at 18447 Sherman Way into a state-of-the-art entertainment venue.

Arson charged in building blaze

BURBANK -- The co-owners of International Recording Corp. were being held Thursday in lieu of $2.5 million on charges stemming from an explosion and fire that destroyed their recording studio, authorities said.

Murder charged in baby's death

Arthritis event planned Sunday

WOODLAND HILLS -- The National Arthritis Foundation will host a three-mile fundraising walk Sunday at Warner Center Park, 5800 Topanga Canyon Blvd.

Registration for the event, co-sponsored by the Daily News, begins at 8 p.m. and the walk will begin at 9:30, organizers said.

``Many people think that arthritis is a disease of the elderly, but it affects more than 2,400 kids who live in the Valley alone,'' said City Councilman Dennis Zine, who is co-chairman of the San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

Gunpowder and bullets catch fire

PALMDALE -- Fireballs lit up the pre-dawn sky when thousands of bullets and gunpowder stored in a cargo container in an industrial storage yard caught fire.

Firefighters leaving stations in downtown Palmdale and west Palmdale after receiving a 4:11 a.m. call about a fire in a Sierra Highway storage yard saw three mushroom-like fireballs shoot into the night sky south of the city.

No one was hurt in the fire at the U.S. Crane storage yard.
