College hall changes rules, elects Paterno, Bowden

Since Joe Paterno Joseph Vincent Paterno (born December 21, 1926, in Brooklyn, New York), nicknamed JoePa, is the head coach of Pennsylvania State University's college football team, a position he has held since 1966.  and Bobby Bowden Robert Cleckler Bowden (born November 8, 1929 in Birmingham, Alabama), better known as Bobby Bowden, is the current head college football coach of the Florida State University Seminoles.  failed to meet the qualifications for induction into the college football Hall of Fame, the folks who run the hall simply changed the rules.

Instead of requiring a coach be retired, the National Football Foundation decided to make any active coach over 75eligible for induction.

With the red tape cut, the winningest coaches in DivisionI-A were elected Tuesday.

Penn State's Paterno, 79, has won 354 games and two national championships. Florida State's Bowden, 76, has 359victories and two titles.

Also elected: Colorado running back Bobby Anderson Robert Conrad Anderson (born October 11, 1947) was an American football player. He played college football for the Colorado Buffaloes. He then played professional football in the NFL for the Denver Broncos, the New England Patriots and the Washington Redskins. , Miami safety Bennie Blades, Minnesota defensive lineman Carl Eller, Washington defensive lineman Steve Emtman, Baylor safety Thomas Everett, Air Force defensive lineman Chad Hennings, Tennesee guard Chip Kell, Purdue quarterback Mike Phipps, Nebraska running back Mike Rozier, Stanford linebacker Jeff Siemon, Virginia Tech defensive lineman Bruce Smith, Florida running back Emmitt Smith, and Florida State quarterback Charlie Ward.

--Five USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code.  games are on ABC's schedule this fall for its new Saturday Night College Football series.

TENNIS: Lindsay Davenport withdrew from the French Open because she still is recovering from a back injury.

Davenport, ranked No. 7 in the world, reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros last year.

I got a noise ordinance fine a couple of years ago. I didnt go to court because I moved before the summons got there.
 and said authorities ``could make better use'' of the court's time without bringing such minor offenses to trial.
