Breakfast event to benefit Grace

LANCASTER - Grace Resource Center will benefit from a fundraising walk and pancake breakfast.

The Walk Against Hunger and pancake breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to noon May 20 at Clear Channel Stadium, on Avenue I at the Antelope Valley Freeway.

Every walker bringing in a minimum of $25 in paid pledges will receive a T-shirt, a pancake meal and a two-for-one coupon for that night's Lancaster JetHawks baseball game.

Cinco de Mayo celebration set

QUARTZ HILL - A Cinco de Mayo celebration will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at George Lane Park, 5520 W. Ave. L-8.

Featured will be games, crafts, refreshments and guest speaker Florencia Ruedas, a local resident whose family has been involved in Cinco de Mayo celebrations for decades. Admission is free.

Cinco de Mayo celebrates the victory of the Mexican forces over a French army at Puebla, Mexico, on May 5, 1862.

Satellite campus to offer program

LANCASTER - Starting this fall, California State University, Bakersfield's Antelope Valley campus will offer the Child, Adolescent and Family Studies program.

Students will be able to earn bachelor's degrees in Child, Adolescent and Family Studies in the two-year program, having completed all prerequisites prior to admittance.

Those interested are invited to attend a free information session from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the CSUB Antelope Valley campus, 43909 30th St. W., Lancaster, Room 119.

The program is designed for individuals interested in careers in elementary and preschool education, day care center directors or social services. The courses will be held via closed- circuit television, online, and through arranged class meetings.

Lodge will host Youth Olympics

LANCASTER - Lancaster Elks Lodge 1625 will host its 58th annual Youth Olympics track meet for seventh- and eighth-graders from throughout the Antelope Valley.

The event will be May 13 at Quartz Hill High School. Gates will open at 7:30 a.m. and events will start at 9 a.m.Approximately 800 boys and girls from dozens of schools are expected to compete in the all-day track meet. Admission is free.
