Motorcyclist diesin big-rig crash

CANOGA PARK - A 53-year-old motorcyclist was killed at dawn Tuesday in a collision with a big-rig at Vanowen and Variel streets, police said.

The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was traveling east in the 21100 block of Vanowen at 5:45 a.m. when he collided with a westbound tractor-trailer turning left to go south on Variel, said Los Angeles Police Department "LAPD" and "L.A.P.D." redirect here. The motorcyclist suffered major head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, said Brian Humphrey, spokesman for the Los Angeles City Fire Department.

The driver of the tractor-trailer told police that the light at the intersection was yellow - and about to turn red - when he made the turn. He told police he was already making the turn when he saw the motorcycle, LAPD 1. LAPD - Link Access Procedure on the D channel.

Police uncover grenade stash stash Drug slang noun A place where illicit drugs are hidden  

VAN NUYS Police evacuated a three-block area around a warehouse Tuesday after they found about a dozen grenades inside the building.

The grenades were discovered when federal agents from the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms Bureau served a search warrant on the business at the 7500 block of Woodman Place at about 2:30 p.m, said LAPD spokesman Officer Mike Lopez.

It was unclear if anyone was arrested or if other weapons were recovered, Lopez said, adding that an LAPD bomb squad had been sent to the warehouse.

'Bobbie Nudie' services Saturday

Services for Helen 'Bobbie Nudie' Cohn, 92, co-founder of Nudie's Rodeo Tailors of North Hollywood, will be Saturday at Forest Lawn Memorial-Park in Hollywood Hills.

Cohn died Friday in Valencia. She and her husband, Nudie Cohn, were famous for their fantastically embroidered em·broi·der

College holds candidates forum

GLENDALE - As part of its search for a new superintendent/president, Glendale Community College Glendale Community College can refer to one of two colleges in the United States.

 will have a candidates forum today that will be open to the public.

The forum will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the school's auditorium. Glendale Community College is at 1500 N. Verdugo Road.

John Davitt, the current head of the college, has been an administrator at the school since 1968. He plans to retire in June.

CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge  given 30 bronze statues

NORTHRIDGE Thirty bronze statues by American artist Harry Jackson will soon be displayed at California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an , thanks to a donation by Washington Mutual Bank, university officials announced Tuesday.

The statues, valued at $740,000, will be exhibited in a new gallery space on campus. The exhibit, scheduled to open this fall, will be adjacent to the lobby in CSUN's Redwood Hall.

The city's Cultural Affairs Department approved the donation through the Art Development Fee program.

Fate of Ferrari passenger hazy

Prosecutors will decide within the next few days whether to file charges against a man who said he was a passenger in a $1 million Ferrari that crashed in Malibu in February.

A 25-year-old man was shot to death early Tuesday during an apparent carjacking near the North University Park area, authorities said.

The victim was found about 1:50 a.m. in the 1600 block of Cordova Street, said Los Angeles police Officer April Harding.

Harding told KABC KABC Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children  (Channel 7) that two men walked up to the victim's green Toyota Camry and fired several rounds, killing him instantly.
