Seminar to ready for kindergarten

PALMDALE - Palmdale School District's Early Childhood Education Program will hold workshops to help parents whose children will be making the transition from preschool to kindergarten.

The annual Kindergarten Transition University will run from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 7 at the Pueblo Learning Center, 37212 47th St. East, near Avenue S.

Workshops are ``Support for English Language English language, member of the West Germanic group of the Germanic subfamily of the Indo-European family of languages (see Germanic languages). The workshops are for parents whose children are currently enrolled in the district's early childhood program. The workshops begin at 8:30 a.m. and are repeated in the afternoon.

Settlements total $3M for tenants

LANCASTER - Former tenants who sued the owner of a dilapidated, vermin-infested Lancaster apartment building owner will get $3 million.

 Apartments sued owners Edgar and Linda Reinoso and former owner Mark Kaufman, claiming their homes were unfit. Lancaster and county officials repeatedly cited the owners for health and safety violations.

``I believe that the settlement will send a message to other landlords ... that they need to treat people with dignity and respect or there will be a price to pay,'' plaintiff attorney Robb Strom said.

Settlements approved this week by Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Superior Court Judge Jane E. Johnson include 36 children who lived in the apartments. Amounts range from $25,000 to $150,000. Twenty-six adults will also get money in the settlement.

Suspect arrested in slaying of teen

KLAMATH FALLS Klamath Falls, city (1990 pop. 17,737), seat of Klamath co., SW Oreg., at the southern tip of Upper Klamath Lake; inc. 1905. It is the processing and distribution center of a lumber, livestock, and farm area. , Ore. - One of two suspects in the fatal shooting last week of a 16-year-old from Lancaster was arrested near the California-Oregon border.

Eli Morris, 19, of Klamath Falls was picked up late Tuesday just after the car his father was driving entered Oregon, Klamath County District Attorney Ed Caleb said on Wednesday.

Police officers followed the car from Redding Redding, city (1990 pop. 66,462), seat of Shasta co., N central Calif., on the Sacramento River; inc. 1872. Morris was wanted in the shooting Friday of Diego Aguilar of Lancaster in a Klamath Falls motel parking lot. Aguilar died at the scene. A Klamath Falls man, Steven S. Vannarath, 18, was charged with murder in the case.

Investigators believe the shooting came after a fight that had been arranged, Caleb said.

Aguilar had been in Klamath Falls for a couple of weeks and was staying with his mother at the motel, authorities said.
