Relay for cancer pre-race rally set

VALENCIA - The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life Relay For Life (often shortened to Relay) is a fundraising event of the American Cancer Society, and is now held in many other countries. It is an overnight event designed to spread awareness of cancer prevention, treatments and cures, celebrate survivorship and raise money  will celebrate its formal kick-off with a Relay Rally from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday at the Paseo Club, 27650 Dickason Drive, Valencia.

Team captains and walkers already registered for this year's relay and anyone interested in participating are welcome to attend. The Relay For Life event is scheduled for June 3 and 4 at Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  Central Park. For information, call (661) 296-0081.

NEWHALL - An ``At the Hop'' dance will be held from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Friday at the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  Senior Center, 22900 Market St., Newhall. Jimmy Raschel & Longshot will perform. Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door. Education will win in comedic hoops

CANYON COUNTRY - The Edu-Hoops Celebrity Basketball Game, featuring the Court Jesters The Court Jesters are a professional improv company founded in 1989 and based in Christchurch, New Zealand. The Court Jesters are a subsidiary of the Court Theatre professional theatre company, acting as a second company within the theatre. , is scheduled for 4 p.m. March 25 at Golden Valley High School, 27051 Robert C. Lee Parkway, Canyon Country.

The Court Jesters, a comedy basketball team, will face a team from the Castaic Union School District to raise money for the Castaic Education Foundation. The event will include music, live in-game commentary and interaction with fans.

University-credit courses available

The California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an , Roland Tseng College of Extended Learning will accept registration for those who want to take university-credit courses during the summer semester, but who are not officially enrolled at CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge .

Students can make appointments for priority registration by visiting http://tsengcollege.csun.edu/registration.html starting Tuesday.

Youth group goes to the golf course

CANYON COUNTRY - The fifth annual Campus After Dark Youth Outreach Golf Tournament will take place at noon May 8 at Robinson Ranch in Canyon Country. The afternoon of golf will be followed by dinner and a live auction in the Sand Canyon clubhouse.

Registration is $300 per golfer, with packages for four and sponsorships available. Campus After Dark is a Christian youth outreach program.

Senior '10 bucks' raises $9,853

NEWHALL - The Senior Center annual campaign, ``10 Bucks to a Better Future,'' which runs from Dec. 1 through Feb. 28 each year, raised $9,853 during the 2005-06 campaign.

The campaign asks all Santa Clarita Valley residents to contribute $10 yearly to help fund the center's services.

Volunteers sought for Spirit Games

NEWHALL - The Special Olympics Special Olympics

International sports program for people with intellectual disability. It provides year-round training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type summer and winter sports for participants.
 2006 Spirit Games, ``The Spirit of Courage,'' will take place May 13.

Approximately 1,000 athletes from all over Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  will compete in basketball, bocce, golf, swimming, tennis, and track and field at various locations including Newhall Park, Hart High, Placerita Junior High, Vista Valencia Golf Course, the Newhall Boys & Girls Club Girls Club is a 2002 American television series created by David E. Kelley, who was also it's producer and executive producer. Only two out of a total of thirteen episodes created were broadcast on Fox Television in the United States and Global Television in Canada.  and the Santa Clarita Aquatics Center.
