Long blackouts upset councilman

Power blackouts caused by high winds throughout the city drew a call for a report from the Department of Water and Power to the City Council.

Councilman Bill Rosendahl said areas of his district have been suffering from an unusual number of outages in recent months, especially during the strong winds of this past week.

``We have had many communities without power for more than 24 hours and little or no communication,'' Rosendahl said. ``These power outages diminish our quality of life. Our businesses, schools and churches are forced to close without any knowledge about when they can reopen.''

Rosendahl said he wants DWP officials to provide a report on the causes of the continuing outages and what steps are being taken to resolve the problem.
