Officers' actions backed in killing

The District Attorney's Office concluded that Deri was ``unresponsive to orders to get out of his vehicle,'' and ``he attempted to run over Detective Meadows.''

Deri's family has filed a $51 million wrongful-death claim against Burbank in the case.

Police released surveillance photos Friday in hopes of identifying a suspect who grabbed a woman as she used an automated teller machine automated teller machine (ATM), device used by bank customers to process account transactions. On Dec. 1 about 8:45 p.m., the suspect grabbed the victim as she used a bank ATM at 3055 Wilshire Blvd. The suspect put a knife to her side and demanded money. The woman gave the man some cash, and he ran off.

Police described the suspect as a white or Hispanic man in his early 20s, about 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds.

The robbery was caught on the ATM's video surveillance camera.

Anyone with information is asked to call the robbery unit at the Rampart Station at (213) 207-2151, or (877) 529-3855 on weekends or evenings.

Services for crash victim scheduled

LANCASTER - Funeral services will be held Sunday in the Bay Area for plane crash victim Gary Rhine, a Los Angeles resident known for his documentaries on Indians.

Rhine, 54, and Marv Rubinek, 50, of Encino, died Monday afternoon when their Cirrus SR20 aircraft went down in an open field near North 35th Street West and East Avenue F, just northeast of General William J. Fox Airfield General William J. Fox Airfield (IATA: WJF, ICAO: KWJF), locally known as "Fox Field" is an airport located in Lancaster, California serving the Antelope Valley region of northern Los Angeles County. .

Services will be held at Congregation Beth-Israel-Judea in San Francisco. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Los Angeles.

Escalator error hurts commuters

NORTH HOLLYWOOD - Six people were taken to local hospitals for minor injuries Friday when one of the escalators at the North Hollywood Red Line station malfunctioned, officials said.

Six of the eight riders were transported to local hospitals with minor neck and back injuries, Wells said.

Two others were treated at the scene.

A preliminary investigation reveals that the escalator was crowded with about 50 rush-hour commuters, Wells said.

It was unclear why the escalator malfunctioned, but an investigation was continuing, Wells said.

Purse snatching suspects nabbed

SANTA CLARITA - Two men and a woman were arrested in Santa Clarita in connection with a series of purse snatchings that began during the Christmas shopping season, a sheriff's sergeant said Friday.

Jose Garcia, 23, Devin Marshall, 19, and Victoria Trujillo, 18, all of Valencia, were arrested Thursday after a purse snatching at 2:15 p.m. as the victim walked to the rear parking lot of Granary Square, said Sgt. Howard Fairchild of the Santa Clarita sheriff's station.

The suspects are being held on $50,000 bail each, he said.

Attacker repelled, sought by police

SANTA CLARITA - A woman was attacked Friday by a man who entered her home through the rear sliding glass door in Canyon Country in an apparent attempt to rape her, a sheriff's lieutenant said.

The attacker entered the home on Nearbrook Street and Crossglade Avenue about 1:20 p.m., said Lt. Larry Gump of the Santa Clarita sheriff's station. After a struggle, the suspect ran off.
