Trapped woman is freed in rescue

SHERMAN OAKS - Firefighters pulled a 20-year-old woman from a chimney Monday at a home in the 7000 block of Ethel Avenue, authorities said.

``She was in little or no distress when they pulled her out,'' said Los Angeles Fire Department The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), also known as the Los Angeles City Fire Department to distinguish it from the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The woman became trapped in the chimney about eight feet from the top, Wells said. He said firefighters, who used a harness to rescue her, did not know how she got stuck in the chimney.

She was trapped for about 30 minutes, he said.

 stabbed three men outside a party over the weekend, killing one of them.

The homicide occurred about 12:30 a.m. Sunday near Anthony Drive and Bristol Road. The three victims and some friends had just left a party when they were confronted by another group, police said.

A fight ensued, during which John Orrantia, 28, was stabbed in the chest. He died on his way to Ventura County Medical Center Ventura County Medical Center is a hospital in the city of Ventura, California, USA. It is a 208 bed acute care hospital. The county also operates a 49 bed campus in Santa Paula. .

. He is expected to recover, police said.

The third victim, Jesus Aguilar, 21, received minor injuries and was treated at the hospital and released.

Shuken funeral will be Thursday

Funeral services for Steve Shuken, founder of Woodland Hills-based Vista Ford, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday.

The 67-year-old Shuken, who died last Thursday after suffering from cancer, will be memorialized at Calvary Community Church in Westlake Village at 5495 Via Rocas, Westlake Village, 91362. For more information, call (818) 991-8040.

Beaches remain closed after spill

Crash of pickup takes out hydrant

NORTHRIDGE - At least one person was hospitalized Monday after a driver lost control of a pickup truck, which knocked down two light poles and a fire hydrant alongside a Northridge apartment complex.

The crash was report at 3:43 p.m. on Roscoe Boulevard between Corbin and Melvin avenues, said Los Angeles police Officer Trasia Figueira.

Teen hospitalized after being shot

SYLMAR - A 16-year-old boy was hospitalized after being shot in the stomach by a gunman in a passing vehicle, police said Monday.

The shooting occurred in the 14900 block of Florentine Street in Sylmar about 11:05 p.m. yesterday, said Lt. Juan Gonzalez of the Los Angeles Police Department's Mission Station.

The victim was standing on a sidewalk in front of a residence when a vehicle drove by and someone inside fired at least one shot, he said.
