Donations being sought

for Senior Holiday Dinner

Donations are still needed for Sunday's 27th annual Senior Holiday Dinner.

Donations to the event are down because of giving for disasters across the country this year, officials said.

The Senior Holiday Dinner, which will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Hilton Eugene, 66 E. Sixth Ave., gives senior citizens an opportunity to socialize so·cial·ize

About 700 seniors are expected to attend the dinner again this year.

Open to any senior citizen, the event includes a full turkey dinner, entertainment, dancing and door prizes for $5 per person. Tickets are purchased in advance at the Campbell Senior Adult Center or the Willamalane Adult Activity Center.

Local businesses and citizens who would like to make contributions to the event can mail them directly to the Lane County Human Services Commission at 125 E. Eighth Ave., Eugene, OR 97401.

Seniors can learn more about the new Medicare prescription drug prescription drug Prescription medication Pharmacology An FDA-approved drug which must, by federal law or regulation, be dispensed only pursuant to a prescription–eg, finished dose form and active ingredients subject to the provisos of the Federal Food, Drug,  plan at a meeting at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Petersen Barn Senior Center, 870 Berntzen Road in Eugene.

State Rep. Debi Farr and former Eugene Mayor Jim Torrey are hosting the town hall meeting on Medicare Part D. Medicare Outreach Outreach is an effort by an organization or group to connect its ideas or practices to the efforts of other organizations, groups, specific audiences or the general public.  Coordinator Brent Wood of Senior and Disabled Services will present information and answer questions.

All people who have Medicare Part A or B can enroll in the plan, which includes those 65 or older as well as younger people with disabilities. People may enroll in a plan through May 15, 2006, or as they become eligible for Medicare.

Without enrollment, individuals are not eligible for prescription drug coverage. If enrollment is not completed by May 15, 2006, and a person decides to enroll later, a penalty may be incurred.

The event will take place at the Dharmalaya Meditation meditation, religious discipline in which the mind is focused on a single point of reference. It may be a means of invoking divine grace, as in the contemplation by Christian mystics of a spiritual theme, question, or problem; or it may be a means of attaining  Center, 356 Horn Lane, in Eugene, beginning at 7:30 p.m. and lasting until the final prayer. A $10 to $20 donation is requested.

Participants are asked to bring firewood, flowers, candles, sacred pictures and other items for the altar altar, table or platform for the performance of religious sacrifice. In its simplest form the altar is a small pile, with a square or circular surface, made of stone or wood. Its features vary according to its purpose. . Bring pillows and blankets.
