Trial is ordered in death of baby

SAN FERNANDO - A 19-year-old Pacoima resident was ordered on Thursday to stand trial on charges stemming from the death of her newborn daughter last year.

San Fernando Superior Court Judge Ronald Coen ruled there was enough evidence to order Jeanne Ma to stand trial on one count each of murder and assault on a child causing death.

Ma went to the emergency room at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center is a hospital in Burbank, California, USA. The hospital has 455 beds, and is part of Providence Health & Services. It's adress is: 501 S. Buena Vista St., Burbank, CA 91505.  in Burbank on Nov. 10, 2004, to seek medical treatment for complications from the unassisted delivery of the baby at her home earlier in the day, according to police.

While at the hospital, she allegedly told authorities that the child was stillborn and that she had disposed of the baby in a trash can behind her home.

Whooping cough cases up sharply

About three times as many whooping cough cases have been reported in California this year as in 2004, the state Department of Health Services Department of Health Services may refer to:

 said.

The state tallied 2,169 cases and seven infant deaths through November - the highest number of cases in 30 years.

Health officials attributed the increase largely to adults and teenagers contracting the illness after immunity from childhood vaccinations wore off.

Man found guilty in murder-for-hire

Sentencing is set for Feb. 3, when the judge will decide whether Lopez - who was 17 at the time of the crime - should spend the rest of his life in prison without parole or a lesser sentence of 50 years to life, Wagner said.

Owner to get back stolen collection

GLENDALE - An Apple Valley man will be getting back his stolen sports memorabilia that Glendale police turned up during a robbery investigation.

The victim called police after officers displayed the items for the media in August. The memorabilia included a football helmet signed by Joe Montana and basketball jerseys signed by Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird.

The victim is a sports memorabilia collector, and the collectibles were stolen from his home, said Glendale police Sgt. Robert Breckenridge.

The Los Angeles City Council The Los Angeles City Council is the governing body of the City of Los Angeles, California, United States.  unanimously agreed Wednesday to ask the Southern California Association of Governments to establish a new subregion for the San Fernando Valley.

SCAG's designation would mean more money to address transportation, growth, waste management and air quality issues in the Valley, according to Councilwoman Wendy Greuel, who authored the motion last month.

The U.S. Census Bureau last month awarded the San Fernando Valley recognition as a separate geographic region from the city of Los Angeles
