Judge dismisses church lawsuit

SANTA ANA - A judge Monday dismissed a lawsuit filed by the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles The Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles is a community of 85,000 Episcopalians in 147 congregations, 39 schools, and 18 major institutions, spanning all of Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties, and part of Riverside County. , which was seeking return of property from Long Beach and North Hollywood churches that split away to join a Uganda diocese.

Orange County Superior Court Judge David Velasquez ruled that the diocese has no rightful claim on land, buildings or items such as hymnals used in worship by the congregations of All Saints in Long Beach and St. David's in North Hollywood.

The judge issued a similar ruling in favor of St. James Church in Newport Beach last August.

43 people apply for council seat

$500,000 going to relief agency

BURBANK - The Conrad N. Hilton Foundation has awarded $500,000 to Burbank-based Islamic Relief USA to help provide food, shelter and health care to Pakistani earthquake victims and supplemental long-term aid.
