Mayor's jet trip may be reviewed

A member of the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission said he would seek a review by the panel to determine whether Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa acted properly in using a private jet to attend the funeral of Rosa Parks in Detroit.

The Nov. 1 trip came under fire by ethics watchdog groups because the jet was owned by Orange-based Ameriquest Mortgage Co., which has a lobbyist assigned to City Hall.

``It's not good,'' commissioner Bill Boyarsky said. ``We should look at it.''

Villaraigosa, who borrowed the jet to fly with an aide, two police bodyguards and a pastor, has defended the flight.

He said he plans to use his political account to pay Ameriquest $438 each for himself and his aide - the amount commercial air carriers charge for Detroit flights.

Boyarsky said he wants the panel to look at whether politicians should pay at least the equivalent of a first-class fare when flying on private jets.
