Man shot, killed in likely drive-by

CANOGA PARK - A man was shot and killed Thursday night during what appears to have been a drive-by shooting drive-by shooting Public health A phenomenon in which one or more persons–commonly members of street gangs, open fire à la Al Capone from moving vehicles, often in retaliation for an alleged wrong-doing by a rival gang , police said.

The man, described as Hispanic and in his 30s, was shot once in the torso torso /tor·so/ (tor´so) trunk (1).

 just after 7 p.m. in the 7800 block of Loma Verde Avenue. He was pronounced dead at Northridge Hospital and Medical Center, Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  police Officer Sara Faden said.

Police believe the man, who was not identified pending notification of kin, was involved in an ongoing dispute with several suspects, said Sgt. Richard Andert of the Los Angeles Police Department's West Valley Division.

Health, safety fair set for Saturday

CANOGA PARK - A health and safety fair will be held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday at Lanark Recreation Center, 21816 Lanark St., with free immunizations, dental care and blood-pressure screening.

The fair is sponsored by City Councilman Dennis Zine, Los Angeles Unified board member Jon Lauritzen, the Canoga Park Neighborhood Council and the Commission for Children, Youth and Their Families.

Pot bust at mall leads to 3 arrest

THOUSAND OAKS Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  - Three men were arrested at the Promenade at Westlake on marijuana charges, culminating a month-long investigation into a drug ring operating in the Conejo Valley The Conejo Valley is a region spanning both Southeastern Ventura County and Northwest Los Angeles County in Southern California, United States. It was discovered in 1542 by Spanish explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, and eventually became part of the Rancho El Conejo land grant by , authorities said Thursday.

Arthur Gutierrez, 29, and Stephen Walsh Stephen Walsh (1859 – March 16 1929) was a Labour Party MP and a member of the Lloyd George Coalition Government as a Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of National Service in 1917 and then Parliamentary Secretary to the Local Government Board from 1917 to 1919. , 27, both of Moorpark, and Eric Aboud, 28, of Woodland Hills, were arrested shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday suspicion of conspiracy to sell and distribute marijuana. Gutierrez and Aboud also were booked on gun possession charges.

The suspects were being held at the Ventura County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail each.

Man found dead in area apartment

VAN NUYS - A 20-year-old man was found dead Thursday inside an apartment with two gunshot wounds to his head, a Los Angeles police spokesman said.

The African-American man was found about 8:20 p.m. after shots were fired in an apartment in the 13500 block of Valerio Street at Ventura Canyon Avenue, Los Angeles police spokesman Kevin Maiberger said.

``The person reporting heard three gunshots and screaming,'' Maiberger said
