Air quality tests conducted by lab

Air-quality samples taken near the Santa Susana Santa Susana can refer to several places:

  • Santa Susana Pass, running through the abovementioned mountains
  • Santa Susana Field Laboratory, near Los Angeles, a test facility for rockets and (formerly) nuclear reactors

The samples tested for a number of hydrocarbons hydrocarbons (hīˈ·drō·kärˑ·bnz),

Benzene is a hydrocarbon, with formula C6H6. , and compared the results with testing conducted earlier at Fernangeles Elementary School elementary school: see school.  in Sun Valley.

Results were fairly similar, with some hydrocarbons a little higher in the West Valley tests and some a little lower, officials said.

``This is a quick gauge of whether we saw any significantly elevated levels of hydrocarbons. Had there been a lot of industrial solvent material that was combusted by wildfire then we would have expected to possibly see high levels of hydrocarbons,'' said Sam Atwood, spokesman for the AQMD.
