LTD shuttles ready to roll

for UO football games

Lane Transit District event shuttles provide transportation to Autzen Stadium on University of Oregon football game days.

The cost is $3 round trip, and is collected during pre-game boarding.

Shuttle service to Autzen Stadium begins four hours before game time. Duck fans are encouraged to arrive early.

Buses run every five to 15 minutes from 11 Park & Ride locations: Eugene Station, 10th Avenue and Olive Street; Eugene Christian Fellowship, North Game Farm Road; Lane Events Center, 13th Avenue and Jackson Street; River Road Station, River and Belt Line roads ; Thurston High School, 333 N. 58th St.; Valley River Inn, Valley River Way; Symantec, 555 International Way; Springfield Station, Fifth and South A streets; Shasta Middle School, Belt Line and Barger Drive; Civic Stadium, 20th Avenue and Willamette streets; and Valley River Center, in the northwest parking lot near the bike path.

For the Sept. 17 game, shuttles will not leave from the fairgrounds. Customers are encouraged to ride from the Eugene Station, Bay I.

Return trips from Autzen Stadium to LTD Park & Ride locations are available only at halftime and immediately after the game. Departures will continue for about 60 minutes after the game ends.

Clerks elect Newingham as association president

The Oregon Association of County Clerks has announced that Annette Newingham, Lane County chief deputy clerk, recently was elected president of the clerks' association.

Newingham was installed during the association's 93rd annual conference last month in Prineville.

Humane society closes during roofing project

FLORENCE - The humane society animal shelter here will be closed to the public Saturday and Sunday as volunteers roof a 2,800-square-foot outdoor exercise area.

Humane society board member Bob Allen is coordinating the project and Dan Lofy, owner of Lofy Construction and Drywall, is spearheading the construction work. Copeland Lumber Company of Florence is supplying materials at their wholesale cost.

`Volunteers are needed to help with the project, especially those with experience in the construction trade, but there's plenty to do for those of us who are 'gofers,' ' Allen said.

Work will start at 8 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m. both days.

Volunteers also are needed to walk dogs while they are unable to use the outdoor exercise area.

Volunteers simply may report to the shelter, 2840 Rhododendron Drive, or call 997-2556 for information.

Plant sale proceeds

to go to Scobert Gardens

The Friends of Scobert Gardens will host their eighth annual Whiteaker plant sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Scobert Gardens, West Fourth Avenue off Blair Street.

The sale will include trees, shrubs, perennials, bamboos, herbs and house plants, all donated by local nurseries.

Proceeds will go toward providing Tai Chi lessons, music concerts and other summer activities in Scobert Gardens, a Whiteaker neighborhood park.

Mother Kali's Books hosts rescue workers program

Mother Kali's Books will present "Journey of Healing: A Rescue Worker's Story" at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Eugene Public Library in the Bascom-Tykeson Room.

All rescue workers in attendance will be honored during the first part of the program. The event is open to the public.

Sutherlin holds annual community sale

SUTHERLIN - The annual Sutherlin Community Sale will be held on Saturday at various locations across the area. The event, sponsored by the Sutherlin Chamber of Commerce, will begin at 8 a.m. and run all day.
