Pernice qualifies for British Open

) shot a course-record 8-under-par 64 in the morning round and shared medalist honors Monday with Australian Geoff Ogilvy in the international qualifying final for next month's British Open.

Pernice and Ogilvy had 10-under-par 134 totals on the North and South courses at the Canoe Brook Country Club in Summitt, N.J. to lead the 14 qualifiers who earned berths for the Open at St. Andrews on July 14-17.

Northridge resident Duffy Waldorf (Taft High of Woodland Hills/UCLA) Alex Cejka of Germany, Joe Durant, Steve Gutschewski and Jason Allred finished a stroke back at 135 on the rainy day.

Tom Byrum, Bo Van Pelt Bo Van Pelt (born May 16 1975) is an American professional golfer.

Van Pelt was born in Richmond, Indiana. He plays on the PGA Tour but he has not had any victories, although he has finished third twice and has featured in the top 100 of the Official World Golf Rankings.

-- Louis Amira of Valencia shot 74-70-144 to tie for first in a U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier at Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club and advance to the July 18-23 final at Longmeadow CC, Longmeadow, Mass. Amira, Southern Section runner-up this year as a Valencia High sophomore, had four birdies and an eagle in finishing even par at the national qualifier.

MOTOR SPORTS: Toyota's decade-long run in U.S. open-wheel racing will conclude when it pulls out of the Indy Racing League The Indy Racing League, better known as IRL, is the sanctioning body of a predominantly American based open-wheel racing series.

The League consists of two series, the premiere IndyCar Series
 following the 2006 season, representatives for the Japanese engine manufacturer announced.

Toyota currently supplies engines for 10 of 22 cars in the IRL 1. (jargon, chat) IRL - In real life. Generally synonymous with f2f.

 and is the title sponsor for two events, including the season finale Toyota Indy 400 at the California Speedway in Fontana on Oct. 16.

Les Unger, Toyota's national motor sports manager, said the announcement would have no impact on the negotiations on extending Toyota's deal with the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach. Toyota has served as title sponsor of the LBGP LBGP Long Beach Grand Prix  since 1980, but its contract expired after the 31st running of the event in April.
