Band raises cash for housing group

THOUSAND OAKS - The Bluez Boys, a high-energy teenage blues band scheduled to perform in Westlake Village today, has raised more than $10,000 to support efforts to provide affordable housing in the Thousand Oaks area, officials said.

The money will help support Many Mansions, a group devoted to providing affordable housing and services for low-income people throughout Ventura County and surrounding areas.

The Bluez Boyz will perform at the seventh annual Great Conejo Duck Race, Many Mansions' largest fundraiser. The Duck Race will begin at noon and end at 5 p.m., with the band playing at 2:30 p.m. near the Westlake Yacht Club at 32123 Lindero Canyon Road.

The Bluez Boys is a 13-member group made up of Conejo Valley teenagers.

Its annual budget of more than $7 million helps create and fund programs that help youth and adults train for available jobs, and help employers create new jobs and upward mobility for workers.

Moorpark beach bus starts June 21

MOORPARK - The Moorpark Summer Beach Bus schedule gets under way June 21 with two trips to Zuma Beach in the morning and two trips back to Moorpark in the afternoon on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The cost is $1 round-trip for adults and students, and 50 cents for seniors and the disabled.

The bus picks up and drops off riders at four locations throughout the city. The service is provided by Moorpark City Transit and is open to the public.

There is room for up to 84 passengers and plenty of room set aside for beach accessories such as folding chairs, coolers, and umbrellas, among other items.

Riders must carry picture identification on trips.

Summer youth passes are currently on sale for unlimited travel on Moorpark City Transit buses through Sept. 15 for $20. Summer youth passes are available at City Hall, 799 N. Moorpark Ave., and the Arroyo Vista Recreation Center, 4550 Tierra Rejada Road, Moorpark.
