Farsi TV station runs out of cash

WOODLAND HILLS - The operators of a Woodland Hills-based Farsi-language satellite TV station that broadcasts to Iran and other countries put out a call Thursday for support, saying they are running out of funds.

National Iranian Television National Iranian Television is an independent, 24-hour Persian language television station. Its offices and studios are in Woodland Hills, CA. GLENDALE - An 87-year-old woman rescued from a burning house early Thursday by two police officers and a neighbor died hours later at a hospital, police said.

Anti-gang order made permanent

The suspect was driving a stolen Honda Accord south on Crocker Street when it hit a Toyota Corolla being driven by Winterer eastbound on Seventh Street, police said.

After the crash, the suspect abandoned the Honda - which he had carjacked an hour earlier at a gas station parking lot in the 1200 block of South Alvarado Street - and fled on foot, police said.

Anyone knowing more about the case is urged to call police. City officials are planning to announce a $50,000 reward for the suspect's arrest.

Man charged with faking own death

A man who faked his own death on a boat anchored off El Segundo faces federal charges for causing an unnecessary Coast Guard search, prosecutors said Thursday.

Daniel J. Farinholt, 44, allegedly placed a distress call and staged a bloody scene on his boat in May 2002 in an attempt to avoid prosecution on child molestation Child molestation is a crime involving a range of indecent or sexual activities between an adult and a child, usually under the age of 14. A federal indictment returned Wednesday alleges that Farinholt intentionally cut himself, then dripped blood on the deck of his boat before abandoning the craft.

On May 24 and 25 of 2002, members of the U.S. Coast Guard, Los Angeles County sheriff's personnel and police from Redondo Beach and El Segundo conducted search-and-rescue operations in an attempt to find Farinholt.

While the search was under way, investigators learned that Farinholt failed to appear for a May 23 court hearing on the child molestation charges. They then called off the search, and a missing persons bulletin was issued.
