Meeting tonight about Wal-Mart

NORTHRIDGE - Concerned community members will gather at Northridge United Methodist Church United Methodist Church, in the United States, religious body formed by the union in 1968 of the Evangelical United Brethren Church and the Methodist Church (see Methodism).  tonight to discuss plans that have been filed with the city to open a 24-hour Wal-Mart store near Nordhoff Street and Tampa Avenue.

The topics will include concerns of adverse traffic, poor wages, plans for the store to sell alcohol and the impacts on businesses in the area of the Northridge Fashion Center Northridge Fashion Center is a large shopping mall located in Northridge, California. It opened in 1971. It was severely damaged during the Northridge Earthquake in 1994, but renovated extensively in 1995 and 1998. .

The meeting will be held in the church's Fellowship Hall A fellowship hall is a large room in a church building where certain activities in the church building are done, such as certain dinners ,breakfasts, meetings,or workshops etc. It gets its name from the fact that the people there at the church building are giving fellowship.  at 6:30 p.m., 9650 Reseda Blvd., Northridge.

No damage, injury from small quake

A small offshore earthquake jolted parts of Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  on Tuesday, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

A 3.4-magnitude temblor hit shortly after 4 p.m., about 4 miles off Manhattan Beach Manhattan Beach, city (1990 pop. 32,063), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1912. It is a residential and beach community with an oil refinery and nearby factories that produce transportation and electrical equipment, computers, and pottery. .

``We did feel a little quake,'' said Angela Presbia, front desk officer for the Manhattan Beach Police Department. ``We had a bunch of calls of people asking if we had an explosion.''

Presbia said the department had received no reports of injuries or damage.

Earlier, a series of quakes including one measuring magnitude 3.7 occurred six miles from Borrego Springs, a desert community about 40 miles south-southeast of Palm Springs. That 12:55 a.m. temblor was preceded by smaller quakes in that vicinity on Monday and later Tuesday.

Dog show, pet fair reset at college

WOODLAND HILLS - The fourth annual ``Nuts for Mutts'' dog show and pet fair, which was scheduled for March 20th but canceled due to the rain, has been rescheduled for April 3.

The event will be held at Pierce College, 6201 Winnetka Ave., Woodland Hills, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. For information and registration, visit www.nutsformutts.com.

Spamming brings N.Y. man prison

The plea deal calls for Anthony Greco of Cheektowaga, N.Y., to receive 1 1/2 years to two years in prison, according to federal court documents. The plea was entered in federal court on Monday.

The 18-year-old also admitted he sent messages to the Los Angeles-based Web site MySpace.com, threatening to share his spamming techniques with others.

MySpace.com provides a free forum for members interested in such things as chatting online, meeting others with similar interests, keeping in touch with family members and finding old friends.

At least 5,500 DWP customers in the San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

 lost power Tuesday night when an underground vault exploded near Sherman Way and Tampa Avenue, a Department of Water and Power spokeswoman said.

There was no immediate cause for the 7:30 p.m. explosion, but crews were on the scene hoping to restore power, said Gail Harris of the DWP.

Customers lost power in areas around Strathern Street, Vanowen Street, Mason Avenue and Tampa Avenue, she said.

Mauled woman's arm may be saved

QUARTZ HILL - A Quartz Hill woman mauled by a neighbor's pit bull underwent surgery Tuesday to try to save an arm that was severely injured in the attack, officials said.

Deputies who responded to the 911 call from the dog's owner shot and killed the animal.

Bitten on both arms and her neck, Kimberly Beatrice, 47, was upgradedTuesday to serious condition, officials said. Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Providence Holy Cross Medical Center is a hospital in Mission Hills, California, USA. The hospital has 254 beds, and is part of Providence Health & Services. History  officials said her family requested that no information be released about her.

Sheriff's officials said they will determine during their investigation whether the dog's owner, who was not identified, should be charged with a crime.
