Career services funded by grant

The Workforce Investment Board of Ventura County recently received funds that will help provide career and employment services to the the hearing and visually impaired.

The grant funded under the federal Workforce Investment Act focuses on equipment, procedures, and staff training that will improve access for disabled job seekers and the underemployed to the opportunities and resources of the county's job and career centers.

There are over 85,000 disabled people in Ventura County and many of them are not participating in the workforce, said J. Thomas Van Berkem, chairman of the WIB WIB - Waktu Indonesia Barat (Western Indonesian time zone)

The goal of this project is to remove some of the barriers they face, such as insufficient access to employment services, and provide opportunities for those who want to work.

1-woman show planned at CLU

THOUSAND OAKS - California Lutheran University will present ``Fannie Lou Hamer: This Little Light,'' a one-woman show by Billie Jean Young, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Samuelson Chapel, 60 W. Olsen Road.

Fannie Lou Hamer was born in 1917 and registered to vote in 1962 after attending a Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee meeting. The event is sponsored by the offices of Multicultural and International Programs and Campus Ministry.

Groundbreaking set for sanctuary

MOORPARK - Moorpark Presbyterian Church will break ground today on a $1.8 million, 550-seat sanctuary.

The groundbreaking will follow a barbecue lunch at 1 p.m. at the church, 13950 Peach Hill Road.

The 12,000-square-foot sanctuary will include a basement that will double as a youth room. The building is expected to be completed by Easter 2006.
