Hahn to address Valley event today

James Kenneth "Jim" Hahn (born July 3, 1950) is an American politician from the Democratic Party. He was the Deputy City Attorney (1975-1979), City Controller (1981-1985), City Attorney (1985-2001) and Mayor of Los Angeles, California
 is scheduled to deliver his State of the Valley address during an event that begins at 5:30 p.m. today and which is held by members of the Valley Industry and Commerce Association.

Hahn, who was forced last month to delay his remarks due to illness, is to speak at 6 p.m. at the business group's annual Membership Committee Fair.

Man, 24, arrested in nightclub death

MOORPARK - A 24-year-old man was arrested Monday on suspicion of murder following a weekend confrontation at a Moorpark nightclub with a Thousand Oaks man who died, officials said Tuesday.

The victim was identified as Ismael Hernandez, 28, of Thousand Oaks. He was with family members at the La Calenda Panaderia Saturday evening when they were confronted by several men, the Ventura County Sheriff's Department The Ventura County Sheriff's Department (VCSD) provides law enforcement for the unincorporated areas of Ventura County, California, USA, as well as several cities within the county. The cities that VCSD serves are Camarillo, Fillmore, Moorpark, Ojai, and Thousand Oaks.  reported.

Witnesses said that Ricardo Fuentes Barraza, 24, of Moorpark attacked the victim, who hit his head when he fell to the ground, sheriff's deputies reported.

Councilwoman Janice Hahn Tuesday convened the first meeting of a task force she assembled to study the possibility of a tsunami in the Harbor area and to develop a preparedness and warning system.

``It seems to me, with all the devastation in Asia, it became clear that if people had even five minutes' warning, they could have saved themselves, and they might have saved their loved ones,'' said Hahn, who represents the Harbor area.

African wildcat loose in L.A. area

A spotted, big-eared cat native to Africa is roaming the Laurel Canyon area and could be a danger to children, a city official said Tuesday.

The bobcat-size serval serval, medium-sized African cat, Felis serval, found S of the Sahara in scrub country close to water. The cat was seen recently in the 2000 block of Davies Way. Like all cats, the serval eats meat, and it could be a threat to children and small pets. If confronted by the animal, move away slowly and make yourself appear as large as possible, David advised. Anyone who sees the cat was urged to call animal-control workers at (888) 452-7381.
