Zine wants to give out audit copies

Copies of internal audits performed by the city's Airport, Harbor and Water and Power departments should be distributed to all relevant officials, commissions and committees, a city councilman said Monday.

Councilman Dennis Zine plans to formally introduce his proposal during today's council meeting, in response to a recent Daily News story about a 2002 internal DWP DWP Department of Work and Pensions (UK)

Burglary suspects from Valley area

SANTA MONICA Santa Monica (săn`tə mŏn`ĭkə), city (1990 pop. 86,905), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1886. Tourism and retailing are important, and the city has motion-picture, biotechnology, and software industries.  - A Westlake Village man and a West Hills woman suspected of burglarizing a hotel were arrested after the man allegedly tried to run down Santa Monica police officers, police said Monday.

Officers were sent to the 1400 block of Ocean Avenue about 4:30 a.m. Sunday to investigate the reported burglary, said Santa Monica police Lt. Frank Fabrega. The suspects were in a vehicle when police arrived, Fabrega said. The male suspect allegedly tried to run over the officers, but they were able to get out of the way, police said.

Red Cross in need of donated blood

El Segundo officials want to stall the revamp on grounds that it will ``aggravate LAX's adverse impacts on the surrounding communities by increasing the airport's capacity and by causing significant environmental impacts without adequate mitigation,'' according to the suit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Villaraigosa lets recall try go on

Faced with a threatened recall as he campaigns for mayor, Councilman Antonio Villaraigosa let a deadline pass on Monday without issuing a formal response to the effort.

Villaraigosa had until Monday to file a legal response to the recall organized by residents in his eastside district who said he promised to serve a full term when he was elected in 2003.

Signatures from more than 15,000 registered voters in the district will be required to qualify a recall for the ballot.

Villaraigosa is considered one of the top challengers to Mayor James Hahn in the March 8 election. The councilman lost to Hahn four years ago. When he ran for the City Council two years ago, he told residents he would serve out a full term.

In announcing a change in plans, Villaraigosa said he had been encouraged by several residents to challenge Hahn's re-election.

4 teens arrested in park vandalism

GLENDALE - Four teenage boys were arrested near Montrose Community Park on suspicion of marking the inside of a park bathroom with a swastika and other graffiti, police said Monday.

Glendale police said they detained the four boys, who are between 13 and 16, at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Glendale Department of Parks and Recreation removed the graffiti the next day.
