Finger-picking Pyle takes stage at Cafe Paradiso

Chuck Pyle plays Cafe Paradiso at 8 tonight.

The songwriter has been recorded by a number of popular artists, including John Denver John Denver (December 31, 1943 – October 12, 1997), born Henry John Deutschendorf, Jr., was an American folk singer-songwriter and folk rock musician who was one of the most popular artists of the 1970s.  and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band For other uses, see Nitty (disambiguation).

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is an American country-folk-rock band that has existed in various forms since its founding in Long Beach, California in 1966.
. Pyle has also developed a finger-picking guitar style that he calls "Rocky Mountain Slam Picking," a technique that recreates the effect of a larger band.

Pyle has spent most of the past 30 years traveling the country to play theaters, festivals, colleges and coffeehouses.

Notre Dame-born band will jam at the WOW Hall

Umphrey's McGee Umphrey's McGee is a progressive rock / jam band from South Bend, Indiana whose music is often referred to as "progressive improvisation." In July 2004 , the band was declared by Rolling Stone Magazine to "have become odds-on favorites in the next-Phish sweepstakes.  plays the WOW Hall at 8 p.m. Thursday.

A jam band that emerged from the Midwest in the 1990s, Umphrey's McGee edged toward the Frank Zappa side of the improv A multidimensional Windows spreadsheet from Lotus that allows for easy switching to different views of the data. Data are referenced by name as in a database, rather than the typical spreadsheet row and column coordinates. Improv was originally developed for the NeXt computer.  rock scale, rather than the Grateful Dead or Allman Brothers.
