NORTH HOLLYWOOD - An unidentified 20-year-old woman was in stable condition Friday after she was hit by a bullet fired from the gun of a suspected gang member, police said. The gunman was described as a male Latino, 5 foot 8 inches tall, about 150 pounds, and 20 years old. He was seen fleeing in a white Ford F-150 after the 2 a.m. incident in the 11000 block of Sherman Way on Friday.

Ex-officer to serve 5-year sentence

The partner of former Rampart Division police Officer Rafael Perez surrendered to authorities to begin serving a five-year sentence, his attorney said Friday.

Nino Durden Gino Floyd Durden (born May 5 1963), known as Nino Durden, was an officer in the elite Los Angeles Police Department Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums unit implicated in the Rampart Scandal. , 34, pleaded guilty last year in state court to conspiring to obstruct justice, perjury perjury (pûr`jərē), in criminal law, the act of willfully and knowingly stating a falsehood under oath or under affirmation in judicial or administrative proceedings.  under oath, grand theft and filing a false police report. He also pleaded guilty to a federal charge of civil rights violations.

He surrendered Thursday before noon to begin serving five years for concurrent state and federal sentences, lawyer Bill Seki said.

``It's over,'' Seki added.

He would not say where Durden will serve his sentence.

 customers can get rebates

Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  residents were to begin receiving utility bill notices Friday about potential rebates of up to $500 for buying energy-efficient appliances.

For the first time, the Department of Water and Power is offering rebates to residential customers for choosing appliances and related products that use less energy than standard models. The DWP has long offered rebates to its commercial and industrial customers.

The rebates are available through the department's Green L.A. program, which is designed to increase energy conservation and alternative power production.

Qualified appliances and products include Energy Star-rated refrigerators, air conditioners, thermostats, compact fluorescent lights, and high-efficiency windows and dishwashers.

DWP customers have until Dec. 31 to apply for the rebates.

 1,'' sued the ``gentlemen's clubs'' because men are charged higher admission fees than women. At some clubs, women get in free, the suit alleges.

Sex-based pricing violates the state civil rights code, according to the complaint.

Two clubs named in the suit, Arena in Los Angeles and Camacho's in the City of Industry, reportedly subjected the individual plaintiff to a physical search while allowing women to go in unsearched.

An employee at Spearmint Rhino in Los Angeles declined comment on the lawsuit, saying no managers would be at the club until late evening.
