BRIEFLY WORKSHOP COVERS NONPROFIT BOARDS.


CANYON COUNTRY - A workshop to help the boards of nonprofit organizations will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  Resource Center, 26407 Golden Valley Road, Canyon Country.

Board development is viewed as one of the most important components of running a successful and productive nonprofit organization. The workshop will cover the fundamentals, including recruitment and orientation, governance, team-building and motivation, leadership development, assessment tools and the role of the board in fund-raising.

College will host midweek job fair

VALENCIA - The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce, Star 98.7, and A-1 Party will present a Job & Career Fair from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation. , 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia. More than 100 employers are expected to participate, with a variety of opportunities for employment in entry-level to upper-management positions. The chamber also is scheduled to celebrate three business grand openings in the coming weeks. On Monday, Olive Garden Italian Restaurant will open at 2 p.m. at 27003 McBean Parkway. The Vintage Rose Inc., a home decorating shop, will celebrate its opening at 5:30 p.m. at 23310 Cinema Drive, No. 106. Cafe Melisse, 24300 Town Center Drive, will open at 3 p.m. May 9 for a chamber celebration.

VALENCIA - The Valencia Industrial Association is hosting its first B2B (Business to Business) Refers to one business communicating with or selling to another. See B2B e-commerce, B2C and B2G.

B2B - business to business
 Industry Show from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at 9 Rye Canyon Loop, the old Lockheed research center in Valencia. The goal of the show is to encourage businesses to shop locally and to help inform businesses about goods and services In economics, economic output is divided into physical goods and intangible services. Consumption of goods and services is assumed to produce utility (unless the "good" is a "bad"). It is often used when referring to a Goods and Services Tax.  available in their own back yard.

The show will kick off with a CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Reception on Wednesday, and on Thursday, approximately 70 exhibit booths from local businesses will feature business products and services. SANTA CLARITA - Trish Lester, president of Signature Communications, a public relations and marketing firm in Santa Clarita, has been appointed to the District 6 board of the International Association of Business Communicators The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) is a leading association for public relations professionals. IABC has about 14,000 members in more than 100 chapters in 70 countries.

Its headquarters are located in San Francisco, California, United States.

Lester's term as deputy director of finance and administration will begin Wednesday. Lester, who has been an IABC member since 1978, also serves on the Los Angeles chapter board as senior delegate.

IABC is a nonprofit organization that inspires, establishes and supports the highest professional standards in employee communications, marketing and public relations. The association's global network comprises 13,000 members in 110 chapters on six continents. U.S. District 6 represents the interests of members in 10 western states.

Workshop covers women's issues

VALENCIA - A ``Dare to Dream'' workshop for women will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the offices of Castro & Marshall, 24303 Town Center Drive, Suite 160, Valencia. The workshop is for women of all ages and will have interactive discussions and exercises covering such topics as values, goal-setting and creating mission statements. Cost is $15. Safety engineers sponsor tourney

VALENCIA - The Valley Coastal chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), founded October 14, 1911, is the oldest and largest professional safety organization. Its more than 31,000 members manage, supervise and consult on Occupational safety and health and environmental issues in industry, insurance,  is sponsoring a golf tournament beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday at Vista Valencia Golf Course, 24700 W. Trevino Drive, Valencia. The tournament will have a best ball format, with prizes for longest drive, longest putt and closest to the hole, along with a raffle.
