Teen enters plea in case of cruelty

A Los Angeles teen-ager accused of putting an M-80 into a dog's mouth and lighting the fuse pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to a dozen charges, including one count of animal cruelty, authorities said.

Lynwood Superior Court Judge Xenophon F. Lang ordered Gil Raul Delara, 19, held in lieu of $500,000 bail pending a Jan. 9 hearing in Compton.

The blast Sunday afternoon ``blew off the dog's entire lower jaw,'' said Eduardo Funes of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Office.

The dog was taken to a nearby veterinary hospital and euthanized.

3 killings in region set to be profiled

PORT HUENEME - The Discovery Channel will air a one-hour episode of a new crime series showcasing three slayings that rocked Port Hueneme in 1998.

``The Seaside Slayings,'' will air at 10 p.m. on Sunday and will highlight the killings of Norma Rodriguez on June 1, Beatrice Bellis on June 27 and Cynthia Burger on Aug. 5.

Executive panel named for court

Store evacuated after letter found

Three immigrants who allege they were victimized by Los Angeles police officers and federal agents sued the government Wednesday for at least $1 million in damages.

Osvaldo Tejeda-Delgado, Carlos Adolfo Guevara-Gonzalez and Jose Gudiel-Brenes claim they were victims of a conspiracy and wrongful conduct of certain agents and certain police officers assigned to the Rampart Division.
