BRIEFLY WILDERNESS EXPERT TO HOLD SEMINAR.


LANCASTER - Wilderness specialist Lee Bergthold will lead a survival backpacking seminar from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday in the student services building, Room 151 at Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. It is operated by the Antelope Valley Community College District, with a primary service area of 1,945 square miles covering portions of Los Angeles and Kern counties. , 3041 W. Ave. K.

Cost of the seminar is $40 plus a $5 materials fee. The seminar is a prerequisite for those who sign up for summer trips led by Bergthold - programs that are not college-sponsored. It prepares individuals for the unexpected in the backcountry back·coun·try

Participants will learn about basics of gear and equipment, medical problems, animals, weather, safety, isolation, morale, food preparation, water sources and fitness. The seminar is open to all ages and skill levels from amateur to experienced.

Bergthold is a former Marine Corps survival instructor who has been involved with outdoor survival techniques for 45 years. He is founder and director of the Center for Wilderness Studies and director for special outdoor projects with the Los Angeles County Probation Department The Los Angeles County Probation Department provides services for those placed on probation within Los Angeles County, California, USA. Car dealer hosting teen safety event

PALMDALE - Robertson's Palmdale Honda will host the second annual Teens Alive to Drive event from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday to promote safe driving to teenagers.

Weekend festival set for lilac park

TEHACHAPI - The Windmill Ranch Lilac Park will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Mother's Day. More than 1,500 lilac bushes are blooming and the annual festival also will feature music, arts and crafts arts and crafts, term for that general field of applied design in which hand fabrication is dominant.
