Performance showcases different dance styles

Not that there is anything wrong with hip-hop dance, but Nick Davis Nick Davis may refer to:
  • Nick Davis (footballer), the Australian rules footballer with the Sydney Swans and Collingwood;
  • Nick Davis (producer)
  • Nick Davis (freelance writer)
  • Nick Davis (All My Children)
 wanted to do something different. So Davis is producing and dancing in "Swing Out!," a collection of dance performances highlighting partner dance.

"Despite the success of dance shows on TV, partner dance hasn't really seen a surge on a local level," Davis said in an e-mail. "I love hip-hop dance, but I felt I could showcase something people in town aren't seeing 10 times a year. Something that different generations can enjoy equally."

The show features swing- and ballroom-style dances. The final is dedicated to swing dance hero Frankie Manning, who died this year, a month before his 95th birthday.

Saturday's show starts at 7:30 p.m. at Lane Community College's Performance Hall, 4000 E. 30th Ave.

Visit www.swingoutloud .com for more information. Tickets are $10 in advance through TicketsWest or $13 day of show.
