Symphony season will open on Oct. 28

The Symphony of the Canyons will open its 2000-01 season at 8 p.m. Oct. 28 with an evening of baroque music Baroque music describes an era and a set of styles of European classical music which were in widespread use between approximately 1600 and 1750.[1] This era is said to begin in music after the Renaissance and was followed by the Classical music era.  led by guest conductor and violinist Armen Anassian Armen Anassian is an Armenian violinist who has recorded violin on numerous motion picture soundtracks such as artists such as King Kong, The Legend of Zoro, and The Navity Story. He has also played with the Los Angeles Opera and is concertmaster of the Santa Clarita Symphony. . The concert will be held in the College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  cafeteria, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia.

Selections will include ``Spring'' by Antonio Vivaldi, ``Oboe Concerto in D Minor'' by Alessandro Marcello and three concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Joining Anassian will be Marina Manukian on violin and Francisco Castillo on oboe.

Tickets are $10 and may be obtained by calling (661) 259-7800, Ext. 3254. Tickets will also be sold at the door.
